Spring / Summer wedding tips for Mothers of the Bride / Groom
We have put together a few tips to help the mothers of the bride / groom when choosing an outfit for their son or daughter’s big day..
- Traditional colours
Brighter colours are more commonly worn at Spring/Summer weddings but why not take a bold step and bring a softness to your ensemble by wearing pastel colours as seen on the runways of Dior and Prada this season. The best advice we can give mothers of the bride / groom, is to pick a colour that suits your skin tone and hair colour. As the mother of the bride / groom, you don’t want your outfit to be wearing you! The following is a guideline to the various tones for the season:
Blue undertones: purple, pink, light blue and cream
Yellow undertones: green, tan, orange, cherry and fushia
No one can predict the Irish weather and it can dictate what we wear and a wedding day in Spring or Summer is no exception. It is best to be prepared for a cool and/or rainy day. If you have gone to the expense of purchasing a mother of the bride / groom outfit then you don’t want to be covering it up with your trusty raincoat! If you don’t want to wear a coat, a good alternative is a shrug or jacket in neutral colours such as mink or cream, which will look chic and compliment most colours. Another option is to purchase a dress / coat combo. The rule of thumb is that your coat should be the same length as your dress, so this will guarantee that you will look effortlessly glam no matter what the weather.
- Shoes – do’s and don’ts
Once you have decided on the outfit, the next step is to accessorise. Firstly, and probably most importantly, pick shoes that not only match your outfit but are comfortable. Sky high heels are in fashion but the look is ruined if you are unable to walk properly in them! A block heel will offer more support than a stiletto and the heel height will help to elongate your leg and slim your ankles. A flat ballerina pump will look good with any length of skirt but for all out glam, a sparkly pair of heels will work very well.
Fascinator or hat? When finishing off a mothers of the bride / groom outfit, nothing speaks elegant more than a headpiece. Choosing the type is a matter of choice. If you are opting for a new hair do, then a fascinator is a great way to finish your outfit without covering up your lovely hairstyle. Hats will always be elegant and in fashion so they make a great choice for a wedding. Match your headpiece to your bag, shoes, dress or all of them, to complete the look.
